Long Lining is a form of training that can be used for horses too young to do lunge work. Long lining is very useful for young horses because it is a way to introduce them to the bit and directional aids without lunging which can be too stressful on the joints. Typically lunging should not begin until a horse is at least three years old.
Paladin, a year later, has been in training as a three year old and is now learning the four track shoulder-in.
